Daily reports
of Wenatchee
10/20/2016
After
waking
up
early
and
a
quick
breakfast,
the
GAPP
exchange
participants
and
their
parents
met
at
the
train
station
in
Herrenberg.
At
7:30
we
said
goodbye
to
our
families,
knowing
we
wouldn't
be
seeing
them
for
a
while,
and
made
our
way
to
the
train,
while
Mr.
Amann
bought
us
tickets.
He
got
onto
the
train
just
in
time,
because
only
seconds
after
he
came,
the
train
left
Herrenberg.
We
unexpectedly
caught
an
earlier
train
in
Rohr
and
reached
the
airport
one
and
a
half
hours
before
the
check-in
counter
and
baggage claim opened.
We
got
through
security
without
problems,
except
for
one
GAPP
student,
who
carried
a
pair
of
scissors
in
the
carry-on
baggage.
At
the
gate
Mrs
Meyer
had
a
quick
freakout,
because
Sebastian
was
nowhere
to
be
seen,
but
he
turned
up
a
few
seconds
afterward
and
she
could
calm
down
again.
On
the
plane,
Lilian
and
Mrs
Meyer
exchanged
seats,
so
I
sat
next
to
my
teacher
and
we
talked
the
whole
time,
while
I
let
out
the
dark
side
of
my humor…
The
time
on
the
plane
just
flew
by
and
before
we
knew
it
we
landed
at
Heathrow
airport.
There
we
went
through
packed
security
checks,
but
afterward,
our
gate
had
still
not
been
declared.
We
waited
and
waited,
went
to
stores
to
get
food
and
drinks,
and
waited.
Finally,
two
and
a
half
hours
later,
we
could
proceed
to
our
gate,
excited
for
the
flight
to
the
USA.
We
boarded
the
plane
and
found
our
seats.
After
almost
an
hour
of
waiting
to
take off, we finally left European soil and wouldn't step on it again for two weeks.
During
the
10
hour
flight
I
started
to
watch
about
4
movies
and
finished
only
one.
Out
of
nowhere
Lorenz'
Screen
stopped
working
and
didn't
work
until
the
end.
At
one
point
we
got
the
customs
survey.
After
a
few
confusing
questions,
we
were
ready
for
landing.
I
was
very
tired
by
then.
Like
on
the
flight
before,
we
waited
until
everyone
else
had
left
the
plane
and
then
completed
our
usual
routine:
everyone
had
to
leave
the
plane,
passport
in
hand.
We
rode
on
some
pretty
impressive
escalators
to
border
control.
Mrs
Meyer
had
told
us
that
the
people
doing
the
entry
interview
were
very
strict
and
frightening,
but,
to
our
surprise,
the
people
there
were
very
nice
instead.
I
was
questioned
by
a
woman.
She
asked
me
how
long
and
where
I
was
staying
and
if
I
had
any
fruit
with
me.
I
did.
She
marked
my
customs
sheet
and
told
me
to
move
on.
Everyone
said
the
interview
was
better
than
they
expected.
Having
passed
border
control,
we
were
now
officially
in
the
glorious
United
States
of
America
–
the
first
wave
of
realization
hit
me.
I
was
on
another
continent.
Halfway
across
the
world.
The
dream
finally
come
true.
I
was
really
excited;
my
heart
beat
so
fast,
I
was
afraid
it
would
spring
out of my chest!
We
claimed
our
luggage,
of
which
none
was
missing
(surprisingly!),
and
rode
a
train
to
the
main
Terminal
entrance.
There,
waiting
for
us,
were
three
GAPP
parents
with
cars.
In
an
instant
we
were
greeted
with
apples,
who
were
bigger
than
any
we
had
ever
seen
before.
The
decision,
who
would
ride
with
whom,
was
easily
resolved
and
before
we
knew it we were on our way to Wenatchee.
Stefan,
the
man
who
drove
us,
asked
us
a
lot
of
questions
and
each
of
us
had
to
interduce
themselves.
I
sat
next
to
Julian,
in
the
back
right
corner
(the
best
seat!).
In
the same car were Henri, Lorenz, Hannah, Lilian, Sebastian, Julian, Stefan and me.
After
about
an
hour
of
driving
around
the
dark,
we
decided
to
stop
at
a
McDonald's
for
dinner.
Stefan
said
he
would
pay
for
all
of
us,
since
we
were
the
guests,
that's
why
I
only had some water. And I wasn't hungry anyway, so that worked out well…
We
were
the
first
carpool
to
arrive
at
the
fast
food
restaurant,
but
soon
after
the
group
of
Mr
Amann
followed.
After
waiting
about
30
minutes,
we
finally
called
Mrs
Meyers
group
to
see
where
they
were.
Turns
out,
they
were
lost
the
whole
time.
That
group
got
lost
on
the
way
from
their
location
at
the
time
of
the
call
to
McDonald's
again.
It
was
actually
pretty
funny,
but
that
may
have
just
been
sleep
deprivation
affecting
my
mind.
At
lasr,
we
headed
out
again.
During
the
two
remaining
hours
to
Wenatchee,
we
didn't
stop, except for one potty break in the middle of nowhere.
We
were
closing
in
on
the
city,
so
we
put
on
party
music
and
the
whole
car
was
singing.
That
was
the
first
time
I
actually
felt
connected
to
the
rest
of
my
group,
and
it
was
wonderful.
When
we
finally
got
to
Wenatchee,
everyone
was
looking
out
the
window.
There were lights everywhere and it had the atmosphere of a typical American city.
The
rendezvous
spot
was
the
Wenatchee
High
School,
where
a
group
of
people,
huddled
up
in
thick
jackets,
were
expecting
us.
What
sticked
out,
was
one
girl,
who
was
wearing
nothing
but
shorts
and
a
T-shirt.
I
gathered
my
stuff
and
started
looking
for
my
host
family,
but
they
found
me
first.
In
front
of
me
was
the
girl,
apparently
immune
to
the harsh temperature, and her mother of graceful statue.
The
drive
there
was
very
funny
and
we
got
to
the
house
I
would
call
home
for
the
next
two
weeks.
Inside,
waiting
for
our
return,
was
the
father,
Larry.
They
were
really
nice
and
we
cracked
some
jokes.
I
gave
them
the
insanely
big
amount
of
chocolate
I
had
brought all the way from Germany.
Almost straight after that, we all went to bed. I was excited for the next day.
Daily report 2016/10/21
In
the
morning
I
went
to
school
with
my
partner.
He
took
me
there
by
car,
which
was
very
special
for
me,
because
in
Germany
we
are
not
allowed
to
drive
a
car
without
other adults until the age of 18.
Then
when
I
saw
Wenatchee
High
School
for
the
first
time,
I
was
so
impressed
by
the
huge size of the building and by the fact that the whole building has just one floor.
My
first
class
was
Genetics
with
Ms.
Funk
There
I
learned
about
heredity
and
dihybrid
crosses.
By
the
way,
this
is
a
kind
of
class
we
don´t
have
and
can´t
choose
as
an
elective either in my school.
The
next
class
was
Homeroom
with
Ms.
Christensen,
where
the
headmaster
of
the
school welcomed us.
After
this
short
first
day
at
school,
I
was
so
impressed
with
how
friendly
the
teachers,
the staff and the classmates are.
Then
after
school
my
partner
and
I
went
downtown.
In
Wenatchee,
there
is
a
small
covered
market
which
is
called
Pybus
Market,
where
people
gather
to
experience
quality
food,
goods
and
services
from
local
businesses.
They
offer
a
platform
for
farmers,
artisans
and
nonprofit
organizations.
We
met
my
host
mum
there
for
doing
the
grocery
shopping
for
dinner
together.
We
bought
appetizing
things
for
dinner
there.
It
was
planned
that
we
cook
a
Swabian-American
dinner
together,
with
steaks,
beans and Swabian spaetzles - which was my part to prepare.
When
we
came
home
from
our
shopping
tour,
I
had
the
opportunity
to
relax
a
bit
because
I
was
still
tired
because
of
the
jetlag.
Then
my
partner
asked
me
to
have
a
paintball
match
in
his
garden.
This
was
really
fun
for
me,
especially
because
it
was
my first time, as in Germany you have to be 18 years or older.
Then
we
prepared
the
dinner
and
had
a
great
evening
together
with
my
host
family,
talking
about
them,
their
life
in
the
United
States
and
my
home
country,
hometown
and family.
When I went to bed, I was really happy about having the chance to be there.

Daily report 2016/10/22
It
was
a
really
exciting
day.
My
exchange
partner
was
away
at
a
band
competition
and
my
host
dad
is
a
pilot,
so
he
had
to
fly
to
Arizona.
And
I
was
at
home
with
my
host
Mum.
I
was
nervous
because
I
didn`t
know
what
I
should
talk
to
her
about,
but
I
think
it
worked.
We
drove
to
a
huge
supermarket,and
she
talked
all
the
time
and
I
just
said
things like "ok" or "yes". But it was ok!
I
was
very
impressed
with
the
supermarket;
Costco.
I
think
it
was
five
times
as
big
as
a
German
supermarket
and
everything
inside,
e.g.
the
packet
sizes
are
big
too.
We
met
a
lot
of
people
and
everybody
was
very
kind
and
nice
and
talked
to
me.
I
was
very
surprised,
because
I
think
in
Germany
wouldn`t
be
so
friendly.
But
in
a
supermarket
people
are
often
in
a
hurry
and
if
they
are
they
are
just
as
rude
as
the
people in Germany.
After
lunch
we
met
another
exchange
student
and
her
host
family
and
we
went
to
Leavenwoth.
It`s
a
little
town
which
is
built
like
a
German
village.
So
I
was
very
excited
to
see
it.
But
when
I
got
there
I
was
a
little
b
it
disappointed
because
it
doesn`t
look
like
a
normal
German
village
at
all.
It
looks
like
the
"typical
German
stereotype"
but
it
doesn`t
look
like
this
anywhere
in
Germany.
And
I
think
to
Americans,
Germany
and
Bavaria
are
the
same,
and
Bavaria
is
the
same
as
Switzerland
and
Austria
to
them.
So
it
was
funy
to
see.
It
was
a
great
afternoon
but,
looking
back,
I
think
I
should
have
talked
more
to
my
host
mum
and
not
as
much
German
to
the
other
exchange
student.
In
the
evening
we
went
to
the
"Musik
Theatre
Wenatchee"
and
watched
the
play
"Peter
and
the
Starcatcher".
My
host
Mum
met
a
lot
of
people
and
talked
to
them.
In
my
opinion
this
is
very
different
than
in
Germany
because
in
Germany
nobody
would
talk
to
people
they
hardly
know.
And
she
introduced
me
to
all
of
them
and
everybody
asked a lot of questions and they seemed very interested in my life in Germany.
The
play
was
funny,
I
think,
but
I
didn`t
understand
very
much,
I
just
watched
the
actors.
But
everybody
else
was
laughing
all
the
time.
So
it
wasn`t
very
funny
to
me
but
that
was
just
like
I
expected
it.
It
was
a
great
day
and
a
great
experience!
And
in
general it was better and more interesting than I expected it so be!
Sunday 10/23/2016
Because
Sunday
was
one
of
our
school-free
and
excursion-free
days,
my
host
family
and I made a trip to the Washington state capital, Olympia.
The
drive
from
Wenatchee
to
Olympia
takes
about
three
hours
so
we
had
to
leave
at
eight a.m. in the morning to have enough time to visit Olympia.
After
finding
a
good
parking
lot,
we
went
to
a
tourism
center
and
bought
tickets
for
a
tour through the Washington State Capital Museum.
Our
guide
was
a
former
history
teacher
who
led
us
through
the
whole
museum
and
told stories about the building, its history and the architects.
It
was
a
pretty,
old
and
interesting
building
that
was
actually
really
modern
for
its
age.
You
were
allowed
to
touch
most
of
the
furniture
and
you
could
even
sit
on
the
couches.
But
the
most
surprising
thing
for
me
was
still
that
they
offered
free
WIFI
in
the
whole
museum.
I
guess
that’s
just
a
usual
thing
here
in
America.
The
whole
tour
was really interesting and informative.
After
visiting
the
museum
we
felt
a
little
hungry
and
went
to
a
market.
First
we
looked
at
the
different
stalls.
Most
of
the
stalls
sold
soap
and
I
learned
that
it’s
forbidden
to
make your own soap in America because it needs the same ingredients as meth.
We
decided
to
eat
at
a
sea
food
stall
and
ate
stuff
like
crab
melt
and
grilled
cheese
sandwiches.
On
our
long
way
home,
my
family
surprised
me
with
a
stop
at
Dorky’s.
Dorky’s
is
a
computer
and
video
game
center.
We
changed
our
dollar
bills
into
coins
and
played
a
lot
of
games
like
dance
party,
air
hockey
or
shooting
games.
My
exchange
partner
won a cuddly toy at one of the games.
We continued our way home and went to bed after arriving at home.
Monday 10/24/2016
Like
on
Friday
we
all
went
to
classes
with
our
partners.
It
was
so
funny
when
we
were
in
the
German
lesson
because
when
they
talked
German,
it
sounded
funny.
We
watched
a
Harry
Potter
movie
in
German
with
English
subtitles.
After
school
(approximately
3.30pm),
Ronja’s
host
family
picked
me
up
and
we
went
to
a
shop
and
bought some clothes that we wanted to wear at the welcome party that night.
Then
we
got
ready
for
the
party
and
we
drove
to
the
college
where
the
party
took
place
(approximate
8pm).
First
we
all
ate
pizza.
Then
the
German
students
played
Piñata.
That
was
very
funny
because
we
all
beat
around
without
a
clue
where
to
hit.
It
was
a
little
bit
dangerous
for
the
man
who
moved
the
piñata
to
confuse
the
students.
The
next
activity
of
the
evening
was
to
carve
a
pumpkin.
It
was
really
great
to
see
so
many different ways to carve a pumpkin.
One
of
the
best
things
was
the
buffet.
Every
family
brought
something
to
eat
and
so
it
was a very big buffet.
Daily Report for 10/25/2016
On this day, our individual schedule began.
At first, orientation was a bit difficult, but with the plan we mastered it well.
In
the
school
it
was
nice
to
see
inspiring
new
school
subjects.
You
could
exactly
see
the differences between our school in Herrenberg and the school in Wenatchee.
Many
students
and
teachers
talked
to
us
and
asked
how
we
found
it
here
and
whether it was very different to Germany.
In
the
lunch
break
we
ate
together
with
the
other
exchange
partners
and
the
Germans.
After
school
we
went
home.
There
we
ate
a
sandwich.
Later
that
night,
the
call
came
and I could finally move to another host family that day.
Then I packed my suitcase and waited until I was picked up.
I said good-bye to my crying family, which was hard for me.
What
I
learned
from
this
day
is
that,
if
people
can’t
get
along
well,
it’s
better
to
go
and
look for other options, so that you feel better.
Wednesday, 10/26/16
It´s 6:30 a.m. but I woke up at 4:30 a.m. like every day since last Friday.
This
morning
I
was
so
excited
about
the
trip
to
Rocky
Reach
Dam
and
Ohme
Gardens.
We went to school by a typical yellow bus.
First
I
had
my
Fashion
&
Textiles
and
Photography
classes.
In
Fashion
&
Textiles
we
created an outfit with a skirt.
The whole outfit was made up of newspaper.
It
was
so
cool,
I
loved
our
outfit!
My
first
Photography
class
was
boring
and
annoying
because
we
were
supposed
to
take
“Ghost
pictures”
(a
picture
of
a
person
who
looks
like a ghost) and my group didn’t know how to do it.
So we sat in the hall and did nothing for twenty-five minutes.
Later I met our German group at the bus ramp and we went to Rocky Reach Dam.
The
thing
that
impressed
me
the
most
was
how
huge
the
Dam
is.
We
did
a
tour
with
a
guide who told us everything about it. So interesting!
We saw fish and the machines and we went to the museum.
In
the
museum
we
could
get
information
about
life
in
the
19th
century
and
how
the
Dam was built.
Ohme
Gardens
is
a
wonderful
place!
The
trees
were
green,
yellow,
orange
and
red
and the little pools sparkled in the light.
Even
though
it
was
a
rainy
day,
Ohme
Gardens
is
beautiful
from
every
side.
I
didn´t
expect
that
it
would
be
so
much
fun
in
this
Garden,
and
what
makes
me
happy
is
that
all the other GAPPstersloved it too.
Back
home
I
sat
in
my
room
and
chatted
with
my
friends
and
family
in
Germany,
read
a book and drew a picture for my Art class.
My exchange partner and I just lay on her bed, talked and laughed.
It was a day full of great experiences, memories and fun.
Daily report 27th October, 2016
27th
October,
2016
was
just
a
normal
school
day.
School
started
at
8:15
a.m.
and
my
first lesson was sports.
We
always
came
to
school
at
7.45
a.m.
because
my
exchange
partner
did
not
want
to be late. The school is so big that at first I had a problem to find my rooms.
We
got
a
sports
uniform
and
played
volleyball.
The
sports
uniform
was
too
big,
but
I
liked it anyway.
The
guys
in
sports
wanted
to
know
everything
about
Germany
and
were
very
interested in me.
My
second
lesson
was
Leadership.
I
liked
Leadership
because
we
learned
to
be
polite and the teacher was very friendly.
After
that,
I
had
Sports
Medicine
class,
which
was
very
boring
because
we
had
nothing to do. In the other lessons we could speak and work with the other students.
After lunch we had Homeroom, where we wrote our presentations.
In
the
evening
we
went
out
for
dinner
to
Red
Robin
with
some
other
Germans
and
their exchange partners.
It was a nice day.
Tagesbericht 28.10.2016
It
is
28
October
and
I'm
in
a
host
family
in
America.
I
woke
up
and
packed
my
things
for
high
school.
I'm
in
the
US
-
this
is
a
crazy
feeling.
Then
I
had
a
traditional
American
breakfast:
chocolate
donuts
together
with
a
smoothie.
I
loved
that
so
much
because it is very different than in Germany.
After
that
I
went
on
these
yellow
school
buses
(like
the
one
in
the
header
of
this
page)
with
my
exchange
partner.
It
took
us
half
an
hour
by
bus
to
WHS.
I
didn’t
like
that
because
the
bus
was
very
packed
so
I
was
very
happy
to
get
out
of
the
bus.
After
that
I
had
lessons
following
my
own
personal
schedule
at
the
high
school.
First
I
had
Interior
Design
and
after
that
I
had
Film
Analysis.
Both
subjects
are
really
great.
Now
I
had
Photography,
which
was
the
most
boring
subject
I
had,
because
I
couldn’t
do
anything there.
Then
I
had
PE
with
some
other
German
students.
That
was
the
funniest
subject
because
we
laughed
a
lot.
Then
we
had
a
30-minute
break
and
now
we
had
Homeroom.
After
Homeroom
I
had
my
last
subject:
Robotics.
It
was
very
funny
too
because
we
talked
the
whole
time
with
other
students
about
Germany
and
things
like
that.
Afterwards
my
exchange
partner
and
I
went
to
a
milkshake
bar
called
OWL.
It
was
the
best
milkshake
I
have
ever
drunk.
Then
we
went
to
another
American
student’s
house,
who
also
had
a
German
exchange
partner
staying
with
him.
We
played
some
video games and some darts. It was very funny and we got along better and better.
On
the
way
home
we
went
to
a
burger
shop
called
Dizzy
D's
for
something
to
eat.
Burgers
here
are
much
better
than
in
Germany.
After
that
we
went
to
my
host
family’s
house
to
play
some
pool
together.
Now
it
was
time
to
go
to
the
football
match
at
Eastmont
High
School.
It
was
very
surprising
for
me
that
a
school
team
has
its
own
football
stadium.
So
my
exchange
partner
and
I
went
to
sit
with
the
other
German
students
for
watching
the
game.
It
was
good
to
see
them
and
speak
some
German.
After a while, a few students and I went to sit with the true, hardcore fans.
There
was
a
great
atmosphere
and
I
met
some
new
friends
there.
But
I
couldn’t
see
more
of
the
game
because
the
others
in
front
of
me
were
too
big.
But
that
wasn’t
important.
More
important
was
the
atmosphere
in
there.
And
after
the
game
all
of
us
felt
happy
because
our
high
school
(WHS)
won
the
game
(14:17).
Then
all
of
us
ran
onto
the
field
to
celebrate
our
team’s
victory.
We
took
photos
with
some
players
and
talked to some other people. I think we all were happy at this moment.
But
now
my
exchange
partner
and
I
had
to
leave
the
stadium
to
go
home.
His
dad
gave
us
a
ride
home.
At
home
we
played
pool
for
a
while
again,
but
then
he
had
to
do
homework
and
I
had
to
pack
my
things
for
the
trip
to
Seattle.
I
would
really
like
to
repeat this day because it was great fun.
10/29/2016
This
weekend
we
went
to
Seattle.
The
meeting
point
was
at
6.45am
at
the
High
school.
Because
of
my
30
minutes
long
school
way,
(there
is
a
lot
of
traffic
in
Wenatchee)
I
had
to
get
up
at
5.45.
I
was
really
tired.
At
the
Wenatchee
High
School
we
splitted
us
up
into
two
cars.
Then
we
drove
to
Seattle.
The
three
hours
long
drive
was
very
heavy.
We
were
all
very
tired,so
we
slept
about
one
and
a
half
hour.
At
about 11 o` clock we arrived at the “hotel” called Green Tortoise.
I
was
surprised
that
we
were
living
in
the
center
of
Seattle
next
to
the
fist
Starbucks
of
the
world
and
the
public
market,
where
we
went
directly,
after
bringing
our
lauggages
to
the
hotel.
At
the
public
market
we
had
about
two
hours
freetime
to
go
shopping.
Everywhere
you
could
buy
flowers,
fish,
fruits,
and
souvenirs.
It
was
very
beautiful
and at some areas you could see the coast with the big Ferries Wheel.
On
the
way
to
the
Experience
Music
Project
(EMP)
Museum
we
went
through
the
downtown
of
Seattle,
where
we
got
time
for
a
lunch
break.
After
30
minutes
walking,
we
arrived
at
the
museum
which
was
next
to
the
Space
Needle.
It
was
interesting
ant
it
was
very
good,
that
they
had
a
lot
of
different
things
to
try
out.
For
example
singing,
video games or playing some instruments.
Before
we
went
home
with
the
Monorail,
which
is
a
railway
through
the
downtown
and
skyline,
we
went
on
the
Space
Needle
by
elevator.
Already
from
below
the
tower
looked
pretty
impressive.
At
the
top
we
saw
the
beautiful
sunset
with
the
sea,
the
skyline
and
the
mountain
Rainer.
It´s
a
mountain,
which
is
about
4300
meters
high.
It
looks
really
impressive,
because
it
is
a
huge
mountain
in
a
flat
landscape
and
directly
in
front
of
the
sea.
We
could
also
see
the
EMP
from
the
top.
From
above
it
looked
like
kind of a guitar. The architecture is pretty artful.
Then
we
went
down
by
the
elevator
again.
After
we
ate
something
from
the
MCdonalds we went to the hotel and slept.
This
was
a
pretty
wonderful
day
with
lots
of
new
impressions.
I
love
Seattle,
because
of the awesome atmosphere and the beautiful different local conditions this city has.
By Lucy Pfeiffer
Tagesbericht USA vom Sonntag, 30.10.2016
It was the morning after the night at the hostel in Seattle.
I
got
up
at
7:30
am
and
first
had
a
shower,
but
there
was
only
cold
water
so
I
couldn`t
really enjoy it.
When
I
came
back
into
our
room,
everyone
had
already
packed
their
stuff
and
gone
to breakfast. So I was the last one packing my stuff and leaving for breakfast.
For
breakfast
I
just
had
simple
scrambled
eggs,
some
bread
and
milk,
but
it
was
delicious.
After
everyone
had
finished,
we
put
our
luggage
on
a
big
shelf
and
left
the
hostel.
First
we
had
some
free
time
to
visit
Pike
Place
Market
again.
There
was
a
shop
with
different
stuff
from
video
games,
comics,
board
games
and
stuff.
If
I
could
have, I would have spent my whole day in this shop.
After
Pike
Place
Market
we
went
to
one
of
Seattle's
Starbucks
(It´s
the
city
where
Starbucks
comes
from)
and
I
bought
a
really
nice
thermos
cup
which
is
actually
for
cold
drinks,
but
I
wanted
them
to
fill
some
coffee
in
for
me
because
I
didn`t
really
sleep the night before because there were some people who didn`t let me...
Somehow
they
needed
a
very
long
time
to
prepare
my
coffee,
so
I
was
a
little
late
at
the meeting point at Pike Place Market.
But
that
wasn`t
really
a
problem
because
we
didn`t
arrive
too
late
at
the
place
where
we met our guide for the Underground Tour.
So
as
you
can
probably
already
imagine,
we
did
the
Underground
Tour
through
the
underground
of
Seattle
and
it
was
really
exciting,
and
our
guide
explained
it
in
a
really
funny
way,
and
we
could
imagine
how
the
people
back
then
felt.
By
the
way,
the
Underground
Tour
was
also
my
group
sight
that
I
had
to
document,
so
if
you
would
like to read it, you can click on this link:
Underground Tour.
The
tour
ended
with
the
Underground
Tour
souvenir
shop,
where
I
bought
a
fridge
magnet.
I
also
wanted
to
fill
my
cup
I
bought
at
Starbucks
with
some
water
because
I
didn`t
want
that
coffee
taste
in
my
mouth
anymore.
I
drank
some
of
the
water,
but
tasted like chlorine, so I decided to rather keep the coffee taste.
We
had
lunch
at
the
Seattle
Water
Front
then,
I
had
some
tacos
with
beans
and
rice.
There
also
were
annoying
seagulls
and
little
kids
who
made
them
even
more
annoying....After
lunch
we
visited
the
Seattle
T-Shirt
Shop
and
Hannah,
Lorenz,
Mr.
Amann
and
me
went
on
a
ride
with
the
Seattle
Great
Wheel
and
luckily
we
had
five
rather
than
the
normal
three
rounds
on
the
great
wheel.
Meanwhile
the
rest
of
the
group went to Pike Place Market again with Mrs. Meyer.
The
last
stop,
before
we
returned
to
the
hostel,
was
the
Hard
Rock
Cafe
Seattle
because
Lorenz
needed
some
drum
sticks
and
a
glass.Then
we
met
our
group
again
at
the
hostel,
picked
up
our
luggage,
and
refilled
our
bottles.
Now
we
were
ready
and
Mrs. Christensen and Mrs. Molitor drove us back to Wenatchee.
On
the
ride
we
unfortunately
had
no
music
box
but
the
other
car
had
two
so
we
got
one
during
a
break
at
a
gas
station,
where
I
bought
two
very
delicious
Arizona
drinks.
One
cherry
lime
and
one
mango
lime.
For
the
rest
of
the
ride
we
could
now
listen
to
music, sing, or just chill. The time passed much faster than without music...
When
we
arrived
at
the
high
school,
our
exchange
partners
picked
us
up
and
we
drove
back
home.
Back
"home"
I
went
to
my
room
and
I
got
the
giggles
because
of
something
VERY
funny.
But
I
took
a
break
and
practiced
my
presentation
for
the
next
day
again,
and
finally
I
thought
about
the
whole
day
again
and
collected
all
the
info
for
this report. My day ended at 11:44 pm and could finally sleep.....

Tagesbericht 10/31/2016 by Janka Riedel
Today was October 31, 2016, and it was Halloween.
But
first
we
had
to
go
to
school.
Today
was
"late
start",
so
I
got
up
at
8.30.
For
breakfast
I
had
cereal,
like
every
day.
At
9.30
we
went
to
school.
Before
school
Nina
and
I
bought
a
"samstrong"
t-shirt.
At
9.45,
school
started.
Today
we
had
all
periods.
So
I
first
had
German
class.
Julian
and
Sebastian
did
their
presentation.
It
was
really
good,
I
think.
Lilly
was
in
German
for
the
first
time
today
because
she
changed
her
classes.
After
German
I
had
Psychology
with
Ronja
and
Nina,
two
other
German
GAPPsters.
It
was
very
boring
because
we
did
nothing.
Just
sat
there
and
ate.
At
11.15,
Nina
and
I
went
to
Mrs.
Lovercamp
to
ask
her
regarding
our
presentation,
which
we
were
supposed
to
do
three
times
the
next
day.
For
the
second
time
we
were
not
going
to
be
at
school
(field
trip
to
college
and
career
expo
at
Wenatchee
Valley
College),
so
we
asked
her
if
it
was
okay
for
us
to
do
our
presentation
just
two
times.
It
was
okay
for
her.
Then
I
had
Maths
with
Lilly.
Mr.
Alexander,
our
Maths
teacher,
was
very
funny.
He
asked
us
if
we
could
drive,
we
should
buy
him
a
coffee.
Well,
we
can't
drive,
so
we
did
nothing,
just
sat
and
listened
to
Mr.
Alexander.
After
Maths
I
had
Photography
with
Lilian
and
Nina.
It
was
very
boring
because
we
also
did
nothing.
Actually
we
had
to
take
ghost
pictures,
but
I
didn't
know
how,
so
we
didn't.
At
12.50
we
finally
had
Lunch
till 1.30.
Then
we
had
Homeroom,
at
the
library
today.
We
talked
about
the
"College
and
Career
Expo"
which
would
be
tomorrow.
And
a
woman
told
us
something
about
the
career
center
and
its
services.
After
that
I
had
PE
with
Julian.
We
first
had
to
run
around at the "stadium" outside, then we went to the power room. It wasn't very hard.
At
3.00
we
finally
went
home.
At
home
I
started
to
write
the
letter
we
were
supposed
write
to
our
host
families.
Then
we
had
dinner.
After
dinner
we
went
to
a
haunted
house
with
my
exchange
partner's
friends.
It
was
very
scary,
we
screamed
all
the
time.
But
nevertheless
it
was
very
cool.
I've
never
been
in
a
haunted
house
before.
Then
we
went
to
Julia's
and
ate
popcorn.
It
was
salted...
not
my
taste.
At
about
9.00
we went home and ate sweets. Then we went to sleep.
It
was
actually
a
normal
day,
except
for
the
haunted
house.
I
think
we
have
to
have
something
like
this
in
Germany
too.
And
above
all,
we
have
to
celebrate
Halloween
much better than we do it now. Because the haunted house was a big experience.
2016/11/01
Today
we
had
a
full
school
day
without
"late
start".
That's
why
we
got
up
very
early
and
drove
to
school.
My
exchange
partner
took
me
there
because
he
got
his
license
in
the
age
of
16
instead
of
18
like
it
would
be
in
Germany.
At
the
main
entrance
there
were
students
who
played
music.
There
wasn't
a
football
match
in
the
evening,
that's
why
there
weren't
any
cheerleaders
but
other
students.
My
exchange
family
told
me
that
Mr
Grothe
(the
Leadership
teacher)
organized
this.They
gave
us
a
high
five.
My
exchange
partner
thought
that
it
was
very
annoying,
but
it's
one
of
the
things
I'll
miss
in Germany.
First
we
had
Leadership.
It's
a
class
like
"Ethik"
in
Germany.
We
talked
about
the
biggest
fears
in
life,
which
can
lead
to
depression.
The
four
biggest
fears
are
the
fear
of
failure,
the
fear
of
rejection,
the
fear
of
punishment
and
the
fear
of
the
past.
I
had
to
present the fear of failure, which is (suprise) the fear to make mistakes.
After
that
we
continued
with
Photography.
We
edited
our
ghost
pictures
in
Lightroom
CC.
Mr.
Carlson,
the
Photography
teacher,
gave
us
the
same
assignment
as
the
week
before.
It
was
about
a
YouTube
video.
He
didn't
explain
anything
to
us,
he
only
showed YouTube videos.
In
Sports
Medicine
we
learned
how
to
tape
a
foot.
My
first
try
wasn't
really
good,
but
the teacher said that it was good for the first attempt. I had only taped fingers before.
After
lunch
break,
we
had
to
do
our
presentation.
It
was
better
than
the
first
two
times.
We
tried
to
talk
French
to
the
class
because
they
had
French
lessons.
After
that
I
went
to
the
gym
because
I
had
Fitness.
We
did
some
weightlifting.
PE
lessons
in
high
school
are
better
than
in
Germany
because
I
would
prefer
weightlifting
to
doing
gymnastics.
At
3
o'clock
we
met
at
the
bus
ramp
for
our
Saddle
Rock
hike.
We
had
a
very
nice
view
of
Wenatchee
from
the
top
of
the
mountain.
I
had
to
write
a
report
about
it.
That's
why I took many pictures and recorded a timelapse.
That's
essentially
it.
After
the
hike
we
ate
in
my
exchange
sister's
favorite
fastfood
restaurant.
It's
called
Taco
Bell.
We
haven't
got
it
in
Germany,
but
if
I'm
honest
I
won't
really miss it.

7:10 am
The
alarm
clock
on
my

goes
off.
I
try
to
get
up
but
it’s
too
early
to
be
fit.
With
all
the
power
which
is
in
my
body
I
go
to
the
bathroom
and
take
a
shower.
The
water
is
cold
but
it
keeps
my
eyes
open
so
I
can’t
fall
asleep.
My
brother
is
still
sleeping,like
everyday at this time. I get dressed and go upstairs.
7:20 am
Dad
is
not
at

He
is
at

My

receives
me

I
also
say
good

While
I

my

prepares
breakfast.
Yogurt
with

It's
a

All
the
other
days
we
had
bacon
with
eggs
and
a

Great!
My

is
still

Hope
he gets up in the next minutes. I don't want to be late for school.

we
could

a
selfie
which
we
took.
After
that
we
finish
our
grid
eye
drawing.
I
like the class!
1:00 pm
We
are
at
the
Wenatchee
Valley
Museum.
Our
guide
tells
us
some
things
about
Wenatchee.
In
the
past
it
was
the
Apple
Capital
of
the
world.
We
learn
some
things
about
apple
orcharding
and
the
first
settlers.
But
after
one
hour
I
am
really
tired.
Too
much information for me and still the tour is not finished.
3:00 pm
We
are
back
in
school.
The
museum
was
really
interesting
but
the
tour
was
too
long.My
mom
picks
us
up
and
drives
us
to
the
shop
with
the
school
merch.
I
want
to
have
the
cool
bag
and
the
shirt,
but
the
owner
is
ill,
so
it's
closed.
That
sucks!
We
go
back to school where the German club builds the Berlin Wall.
4:30 pm
We
sit
in
front
of
the
German
room
and
eat
pizza.
The
last
hour
we
all
helped
to
build
the
wall
and
the
result
looks
really
cool.
The
room
is
separated
into
two
halves
and
in
the
middle
is
the
wall,
which
is
built
out
of
cardboard
boxes.
I
think
it
will
be
really
difficult to teach the next week with the wall in the room, but it is a cool project.
6:30 pm
Theo
and
Ronja
arrive.
We
invited
them
to
hang
out
with
us.
We
go
downstairs
to
Noah's
living
room
with
the
huge
couch
and
the
big
TV.
We
talk
a
little
bit
and
listen
to
music.
Ronja
and
me
show
them
German
music.It’s
really
funny.
For
dinner
we
have
a great steak with sweet baked pumpkin. Really great!
10.45 pm
I’m
lying
in
my
bed.
The
day
was
really
exhausting
and
I
am
tired.
But
I
am
also
really
sad.
We
are
leaving
in
two
days
but
I
don't
want
to
leave
all
the
nice
people
I
met
here.
We
had
a
great
time
together
and
the
school
here
was
really
interesting
and
cool.
I
will
miss
the
great
art
class
and
all
the
nice
teachers,
especially
Mr
Grothe.
Lets see what we will do tomorrow, good night!
Henri
Report of Thursday November the third
I
woke
up
as
always
and
said
good
morning
to
my
host
parents.
Everybody
else
was
still
sleeping.
I
always
was
the
first
in
the
shower.
I
came
out
of
the
shower
and
now
my
partner,
my
two
host
brothers
and
my
host
sister
were
awake
too.
The
two
little
ones
played
catch,
I
think
I’ll
never
understand
how
they
could
be
so
energetic
so
early.
We
had
breakfast
and
my
host
mom
made
pancakes,
they
were
so
tasty.
After
that,
my
partner
and
I
took
our
lunch
and
our
bag
and
my
host
dad
drove
us
to
seminary.
The
teacher
gave
me
a
Book
of
Mormon
as
a
farewell
gift.
Then
the
last
full
day
of
school
started,
and
it
was
really
sad
because
it
was
the
last
time
I
saw
all
of
the
people
I
got
to
know
in
those
two
weeks.
After
school
I
went
to
the
bus
ramp
and
my host went to his cross country training.
My
3
host
siblings
took
the
same
bus
home.
We
all
went
home
together,
where
my
host
mom
already
waited
for
us.
We
started
a
board
game
until
my
partner
came
back,
because
now
we
could
go
to
a
friend’s
house
where
we
met
all
the
other
Gappsters.
It
was
the
last
evening
together
so
we
all
met
and
made
it
the
best
evening
ever.
We
went
into
the
hot
tub,
jumped
into
the
pool
from
the
roof,
watched
a
movie
and
had
a
great
time.
After
that
my
host
dad
picked
us
up
and
we
drove
back
to
our
house.
I
was
really
tired
and
went
to
bed
instantly,
with
the
sad
thought
in
my
mind that this was the last evening.
Daily Report 2016/11/04
This
day
was
our
last
day
in
Wenatchee.
In
the
morning
I
went
to
school
with
my
partner.
I
had
P.
E.
in
zero
period
with
Mr.
Deveraux,
Introduction
Into
Engineering
in
first
period
with
Mr.
Merill,
Geometry
with
Mr.
Alexander
in
second
period
and
with
Mr.
Spencer in third period.
After
this
we
went
to
Room
205
for
a
last
pizza,
where
we
met
with
our
host
families
and
new
friends.
There
we
had
the
chance
of
a
last
meal
together.
Then
all
of
us
went
to the staff parking lot together to say goodbye to our host families and new friends.
This was a very sad moment for everybody.
After
this,
a
few
families
took
us
to
Seattle
International
Airport
by
car.
On
our
way
we
stopped
at
Mc
Donalds
at
one
point
to
buy
snacks
and
drinks.
The
next
stop,
after
a
ride
of
three
hours
total,
was
Seattle
International
Airport,
where
we
said
goodbye
for
a second time to our host families who took us to the airport.
When
we
passed
the
security
check,
we
felt
we
had
lots
of
time
until
boarding,
but
there
was
some
mistake
and
so
we
were
called
by
name
by
the
airport
staff
to
board
the
flight
immediately.
The
flight
to
London
took
9
hours
and
the
last
three
hours
were
a little bit boring. But now we felt happy to be home soon.
In
London
we
had
a
5-hour
stopover
and
we
were
very
happy
that
the
flight
to
Stuttgart
was
not
delayed.
So
we
landed
in
Stuttgart
at
7
pm
local
time.
At
the
airport,
our
families
and
some
of
our
friends
welcomed
us;
and
although
we
had
a
really
awesome and magnificent time in Wenatchee, we were also happy to be back.
