aa Whether   you’re   into   spas,   geocaching,   outdoor theatres,    wine    tours    or    interesting    museums, Leavenworth has what you ´re looking for. Leavenworth   is   a   village   in   USA,   which   looks   like a   Bavarian   village.   It   is   situated   between   some mountains, so it looks very Bavarian. At   first,   Leavenworth   was   a   normal   village,   but in     the      1 9 t h c e n t u r y     the     people      who     lived there     d i d n ´ t f i n d    work,    so    Leavenworth    was about   to   become   a   ghost   town.   But   then   some o f t h e     inhabitants     had      the     idea      to      live     off tourism.     So     they     made     Le a v e n w o r t h l o o k    like B a v a r i  a . T h e i d e a b e h i n d i  t w a s t h a t    Americans   can   got   to   Bavaria   without   travelling and spending a lot of money. And today Leavenworth is a big success. More than one million visitors come per year   and enjoy German shops, the Oktoberfest, the Bierfest, the Mai-Fest,… My experience: Now I know what Americans think about Germany and I think they are wrong. They b e li e v e t h a t Germans always wear Dirndl and L e d e r h o s e n . M a y b e they wanted  to make Leavenworth look like Bavaria, but actually it doesn´t . When you go to the shops, you would think, that there were German things you can buy. But nobody in Germany would buy or sell such things. My personal impressions: When we went over there, we went to most of the shops and we s p e n t a b o u t 3 hours there. I found it very f u n n y b e c a u s e the Americans really have a wrong impression of us, but anyway I liked the feeling there. In my opinion, some shops were really stuffed with corny things and I d id n ´ t l ik e that. And I think, as the village isn´t really genuine, it doesn´t help Americans to understand what it´s like in Germany. To me as a German girl it seemed to represent the common prejudices of Americans towards Germany.

M y tip: When    you    visit    Leavenworth,    you    have    to    go    to    “Wok    about    grill”.    It    is    a Chinese   restaurant,   where   you   can   order   whatever   you   want   to   eat   and   then you   can   see   how   they   roast   it   on   a   big   hot   stone.   It   smells   and   tastes   very good!!
